Maybe she didn't mean it as a race thing, but was only telling you she has face blindness? I find it just as difficult to tell white people apart as I do Asians or Africans, because I mostly recognize people by their hair and clothes rather than their face.
That has lead to some awkward situations plenty of times, like meeting someone in a conference room and getting along quite well. A few hours later they greet me at the pool, them not wearing a shirt anymore and their hair being wet, and me being like "who are you and why do you act like you know me?"
This may also explain why I don't have much luck in dating. Calling someone beautiful when they send a photo and then not being sure if they are my date when they approach me for our first meeting, must make them question my sincerity. 😅

@NerdyPotato Same and there are some people that actually have "fluid faces" to me. 😆 They are almost immemorable to me because they seem different every time I see them. And I don't mean photos that could be manipulated, I mean videos or even real life.

@NerdyPotato I don't even mind if she meant it as a race thing because I get it when people are new to certain features. And where she is right now, she is underprivileged because of her race. If I go about feeling offended, it would be such joke.
Any potential biases she has amount to nothing when weighted against what she has to go through here compared to me.
I had the same difficulty not long ago with certain asian ethnicities.
Takes time to observe and learn.

@CrazyMusicLover oh yes! Some people have very distinct facial features. Sometimes I can't even put my finger on what it is, but I do recognize them easily. Others don't stand out in the crowd at all, and if they dye their hair or put it in a bun, they are different person to me. 😅
@Miram that's a really good way to look at it. I think it may be true that some things simply don't register until you train yourself to pay attention to them.

I understand that. 😂 I recognize a few types and if I have to be in a group of people where there is more than one person of a certain visual type I need some time to remember them. Otherwise it's "one of those girls with long straight brown hair" or "one of those bald dudes with glasses", etc.
