How do I not try so hard when making friends? I'm not very good at it. 🙈

People say I" come on too strong. "

Can you give me an example of when someone said this?
Manfredthemanic · 18-21, M
@Fluffybull Yes, Fluffy. Hello! 🙈😊
Someone told me that I should stop smothering them and someone else told me I was a sweet kid, but I might have tried too hard and came on too strong. This person is my friend and I like them.
Manfredthemanic · 18-21, M
@Manfredthemanic Then he said, "But you're a really lovely young guy and it is not something that will escape people's notice."
Fluffybull · F
@Manfredthemanic Do you think you came on to strong? What did you do/say that made the person say that?
Manfredthemanic · 18-21, M
@Fluffybull No, because I don't understand when I am. I get excited.
Well, the second person just assumed I came on too strong because he knows me. 🙈
I don't know what I did. I thought I was doing what friends do.

@Manfredthemanic It's difficult sometimes getting things right. On one hand, we want to be friendly and pleasant. On the other, we don't want to overstay our welcome. Like when someone asks someone round for dinner. There's dinner, then coffee and a chat afterwards, then the guest goes home. Some people are enjoying being a guest so much that they stay too long and the hosts want them to leave so they can tidy up and go to bed.
Manfredthemanic · 18-21, M
@Fluffybull Then I think people should tell them. I sometimes say things that mum thinks are not polite, but I'm not rude, I just tell the truth.

@Manfredthemanic Some people do but they feel a bit awkward. They may say, "this has been a great evening but we'll have to call it a day, we're up early in the morning". A lot of people don't like saying what they think/feel. So they may find it easier to stop inviting people who need to be told. 😥
Manfredthemanic · 18-21, M
@Fluffybull But how are you supposed to know if they don't tell you? Maybe they should have a schedule. People are confusing.
Fluffybull · F
@Manfredthemanic Some of these things are learned as people grow up and socialise with others. Some teenagers really start how to interact with people they don't know well when they go to university or start their first job after leaving school. It would be great if schools taught social skills along with other lessons.
Manfredthemanic · 18-21, M
@Fluffybull I might have trouble at university, Fluffy.
I think school should teach. Some people tell me not to act a certain way, but don't tell me the proper way. 🙈
One day I asked mums friend how she pays for her house because she doesn't work or have a husband or partner, and mum said that was rude. But she was the one who started talking about the house. The woman said it was fine and laughed.

@Manfredthemanic A lot of people struggle at university at first. Your mother should know what you're like and that you're not being "rude", at least not intentionally. You're right, people should explain the "accepted" way to behave. Some people find honesty refreshing, though! 😊
Manfredthemanic · 18-21, M
@Fluffybull I hope things will be alright for me in the end, Fluffy.
Yes, mum should know. I will see if Pieter thinks it's rude when I talk to him next time.
Some people just answer me. That lady did! 😊
Fluffybull · F
@Manfredthemanic I think it will be easier at university coz you'll be meeting people who are older than the boys you know at school now so they could be more helpful 👍
Manfredthemanic · 18-21, M
@Fluffybull They might keep me as a pet. 🙈
Fluffybull · F
@Manfredthemanic You could be their mascot! 👏👏👏😊
Manfredthemanic · 18-21, M
@Fluffybull That would be cool! 😊
Fluffybull · F
@Manfredthemanic Try and make some female friends at uni, not "girlfriends", just friends. A lot of girls like talking about relationships etc and I can see some of them treating you like a little brother and helping you out 👍
Manfredthemanic · 18-21, M
@Fluffybull That would be fun. I would like a sister. 🙈😊 They might think I'm cute because some girls find a lot of things cute.
