Check out the work of Alphonse Mucha. He rose to prominence as an artist through creating publicity posters for plays starring Sarah Bernhardt. His art was used to advertise everything from bicycles to cigarettes to Absinthe across Europe. He also created his own art for the sake of it and produced some of the most amazing works of the Art Neuvou (sp?) era including the magnificent"Slav Epic".
