Uncorked Burgundy
Erasmus of Rotterdam (1466–1536) was known to be very fond of Burgundian wine, which he used to help manage his poor health, specifically to alleviate suffering from gallstones and gout. During his time in England (1509–1514), he notably disliked the local wine and beer, preferring the red wine from the Burgundy region. Burgundy wine history spans over 2,000 years, beginning with Roman cultivation and developing through the Middle Ages under the influence of monks and the Dukes of Burgundy, who established the region's famed "terroir-driven" parcel-based (climat) system. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are the traditional, iconic grapes, with the Cistercians and Benedictines heavily influencing vineyard classification
