1. Before the initial sip, some wine drinkers swirl the wine inside the wine glass to see its color and to oxygenate the wine to release aromas. if you fill the glass to the top, you can't swirl it without spilling it all over.
2. It also a no-no to fill it. For some reason, it's just something not acceptable. kind of like... not a classy thing to do.

Glasses? People use glasses? Are you saying a paper bag over the bottle is not acceptable?

Wine is a luxury and some of us cannot drink too much in one sitting. It's nice to enjoy and contemplate a small amount in the glass. There s no rush 😌

Most wine drinkers will tell you it's so it can breathe.

To allow room to swirl the wine and smell its scent.
The smell is a big part of the pleasure.

So they won’t splash it around and spill it. But I am sure there’s a deeper reason than that
sree251 · 41-45, M
@cherokeepatti There is no reason. It's just a style.

Because its a lot stronger alcoholwise than a normal mixed drink or beer. Plus most wines have a strong enough taste that they should be sipped meaning that even though there is less in the glass you should finish about the same time.
