New to whiskey...

I'm new to whiskey. (Or whisky?) And I drink it neat. So far I've tried a few different kinds of single malt scotch. Dalmore. Aberfeldy. Highland Park 12. I'm too old to suffer a hangover, so I stick with the good stuff. I got a bottle of Dewar's. It don't make me sick. But I can tell that it doesn't have something the others do. Any recommendations?

First, Scotch whisky is whisky. I can't speak for the spelling of Irish or American versions.

Second, all the single malts you mention are excellent. Highland Park is one of my favourites. Two further suggestions: Talisker and Macallan. Very different, but both splendid in their way.

Enjoy - and as an experiment, try a single malt with a little water. Never ice!
I dont recall ever having Dewar and since I dont know what flavors you are seeking in your whisky, what you might be missing. Tell me about what you enjoy in what you are drinking. Is it the smokey Peet, or maybe is it the sweetness that you are seeking. What does a good whiskey taste like to you?

@nonsensiclesnail To be honest, I haven't figured that out. I'm kind of new to this. I need to find a whiskey tasting event.
@Prisoner1972 Or maybe even a good whiskey bar with knowledgeable staff and a lot to try.

Typically the shop bought whiskies available are the easiest to drink,and lowest in value. The tastier whiskies will be much more expensive,but alot more tasty.
I myself,can only afford the everyday shop bottle's. Jameson is a particular favourite,wish whiskey ( whisky is Scottish, whiskey is Irish)
Im not a whiskey person.... but i do like it with milk.

Yeah, yeah, dont scream at me in shock - its a really nice drink before sleep, (smoother flavour), and the milk makes it sit better in your stomach and softens the blow next morning.

@cinsac no. sorry to disappoint.
@Prisoner1972 You didn't disappoint me. I figured it would be impossible anyway, but I had to check.

@HumanEarth I just looked in the corner of my basement and I resurrected a 10-year-old unopened bottle of Jim Beam. I bought it duty-free on my last cruise.

What proof? The higher the proof the better it aged
Strictmichael75 · 61-69, M
@HumanEarth whisky doesn’t age in a bottle!
