I am Vegan

I've been vegan for twelve years and if anyone asks me the reason I politely explain my views to them. Society generally tends to condemn bullying and emotional abuse, but if the subject happens to be vegan, there is suddenly an unofficial free pass floating in the air for anyone who wants to take it. I have had someone thrust a piece of bacon in my face and yell, 'go on, you know you want some!' I don't. If I wanted to eat it, I would. Having someone trying to make you a spectacle and feel like shit in front of others simply because they don't agree with your personal choices in life is pathetic. If you are vegan who had to deal with this then you are obviously not alone. I feel strongly that one day, if not in my lifetime, the world will find itself a much kinder place than it was, and it will only start when fools realise that other fellow human beings are not here to be bullied either physically or emotionally, and that animals aren't either.

I am not a vegetarian. I eat fish, milk products and eggs.

The reason why I don't eat meat, and I have not for the past 40 years, is that the meat industry is the largest producer of pollution, directly and indirectly, with the biggest negative impact on the environment. In addition, I have red meat allergies.

I've gotten the lecture, often, from people who feel sorry for me, and how good meat tastes. I've also heard: liberal, communist, elitist, etc.
