Fairly sweet, yes. I can and often do now, drink it without.

This is ordinary tea, of the tea-plant; not infusions of other plants but still called "Xxxxxx Tea"

Our family used habitually to put sugar even on cereals like cornflakes, but I stopped doing that decades ago.
