Anyone been to Maui, Lahaina, Front Street?

Huge fire wiping out that town, community, burning restaurants, businesses shops etc.

Had people fleeing to the ocean and jumping in to avoid the fire, heat and smoke inhalation.

Ive stayed at the south end of Front Street @ Puamana gated community on occasion.

Anyone know if the fire reached there?

Many, many times. Sad to see what's happening. I hope the Banyan tree survives, but based on the coverage I've seen, not likely.
@Northwest :( people are jumping in the ocean

@Northwest Read this earlier. Because of the fire, Hawaii officials have reported hundreds of homes are gone, along with historic businesses on Front Street, even the famous Banyan Tree.
Such a bad scene.
@Northwest it's still there apparently

SO... sad! Gorgeous old wooden buildings..

Yep, many times. Nothing left of front street.
Yup. It's gone. But hey, you had to drive cars and the ecosystem was never going to survive that!
The people on Oahu have the exact same contempt for environmental people. They're driving cars to the Final Solution and they love the Earth s biggest emitter, the US military.

I stayed at the historic pioneer inn years ago for one night , then stayed at Kaanapali beach

@AthrillatheHunt Boats burned they say. Harbor is gone I read😳
@Neoerectus From the main highway all the way to the ocean is in ruins as i looked at lots on You Tube

@KentuckyWildcats I texted a friend from when i lived on Maui. He is still scoping the sltuation, but he has friends who lost homes and are devastated as you can imagine.
Cars are the cause and children are suing Hawaii to make them
Provide alternatives. Sociopathic Americans can just fail to understand the connection. And we understand you are not helpful.

@Roundandroundwego your dementia is showing

It's so bad. I haven't seen photos of the aftermath but I'm reading that there's serious destruction. So much of Maui's economy is centered around Lahaina and I'm just thinking about how people are going to move forward. Terrible. Dry fuel in Maui. Something's not right about that.

I was just reading about it. Very scary, the fore and heat traveled so quickly. Looks like there was some serious destruction, serious injuries, and loss of life. :(
akindheart · 61-69, F
was it Arson? or naturally caused? i have been to Waikiki Beach. that is all.
@akindheart Windstorm carried ash from other forests fires to ignite the community.

@KentuckyWildcats that is horrible. what a beautiful place
Patriot96 · 56-60, C
Been there. Those shops and restaurants are mostly wooden structures

How tragic. Thoughts and prayers for the residents of Maui.

I’ll be there Tuesday afternoon to see what’s left.

@Fukfacewillie I was in Kauai in august 2018 when a hurricane (forget the name Ika maybe ) basically made land fall in Lahaina and there were fires everywhere then too .
They will rebuild .
Fukfacewillie · 56-60, M
@AthrillatheHunt I think so too, but it's those old buildings that can't be replaced. The banyon tree! 🥺
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
@Fukfacewillie I know . It’s like well over a century old if I remember correctly .
Fukfacewillie · 56-60, M
Yes, a few times. It's very scary.
