I Love Strawberries

the best strawberries are wild strawberries (and no, not the false strawberries that brow in the field behind my house, those things are tasteless). wild berries are tiny but VERY good flavor, nothing at all like the hybrid varieties. just have to grow them inside a net or the birds get them before i can. try them on some homemade vanilla ice cream.

Wild strawberries are delicious. But they'd be even rarer(extinct?) were they the [i]only[/i] cultivar of strawberry. The unfortunate reality is that nothing beats a fresh ripe strawberry, and shipping truly ripe strawberries is a nightmare. The tastiest berries are developed for a locality - soil, climate, weather, etc - and like most fruits, they do much better in the area for which they were bred.

They are good, ive found the shop bought ones in the UK are ok when they're in season, because they're grown mainly in open fields etc, the greenhouse forced ones from Spain, Portugal and Isreal are tasteless. Also noted an influx of East European ones, they are pretty crap too.
