here's the report I saw - https://www.insider.com/jail-staff-stopped-starbucks-while-california-inmate-was-in-labor-2022-8
you left out some other incriminating details - her water broke while she was in her cell and it took a couple of hours for the jail staff to address the issue.
so not only is a the animal that transported her in fault - the people that monitored the desk need to go to jail.

This is horrible and so sad 💔
The jail staff needs to be held accountable! Isn't the US prison system very inhumane in general?

(in case anyone doubts this story).
Sadly, I don't find it surprising. I think inmates in the U.S are generally treated like trash even when they are pregnant. Her baby may have been saved had they not taken several hours to get this woman to the hospital. Prison staff are always obligated to ensure that inmates receive medical care, but that obligation is far greater when an innocent human life is concerned.
Those responsible for this are despicable in my view.

While I don't know the facts surrounding this incident, if it is true, then the "jail staff" need to be charged, arraigned and face a judge and jury on charges of manslaughter.

I hope she’s no longer homeless and mentally ill after getting her $480,000 settlement.
I hope she sues Starbucks too…cause maybe they were too slow with the order.

It is sad that some people are thoughtless. We should always treat people the way WE want to be treated, and put others before ourself. God will bless us, and the world will be kinder!

@ChasdeiAdonai and I bet she was more than 6months
Well, since some of the more psychotic people here have been actively attacking me, i will be blocking you as decided by the people in charge. I am not by definition a Karen and there is no excuse for your sick behavior. you all ruined the EP site and ruined this one as well.

@ChasdeiAdonai Best comment!

@DIABLISS They went to Starbucks and didn’t buy her anything? Not nice!

Oh no! Now honestly the baby was probably not going to make it if a 10 to 15 min stop at Starbucks was the breaking point BUT it is still soooooo unconscionable to stop for coffee while someone needs to go to the hospital.
On the other hand though I can imagine the apathy of the jail workers. Inmates always try tricks and games, they always try to escape or cry wolf. Who knows how long this lady was in labor? We need more info to know the actual situation before total condemnation of the workers but it does sound bad.
Sad either way, life is very precious.

They should at least become inmates of their own prison. Why was she incarcerated, incidentally ?
@bijouxbroussard i can't find out why. but she was homeless and mentally ill...kind of makes it sadder

@DIABLISS Respect is earned and not given. And anyone who wants or demands respect gets absolutely none from me. "Respect" has become one of these toxic words which carries a threat "I want respect...." with an implied "or else". In Britain you are brought up to have "total, unquestioning respect" for monarchy, the military, the police (although they all disgrace themselves) the "national anthem" (what a joke) and the "union jack" (another f***ing joke) .
If you want my advice, just block "Ned Kelly" and his friends. You can do without that negativity. He's not worth the stress.
FWIW I can believe the story about the pregnant girl who lost her baby while in "legal" custody. There are stories of female prisoners being similarly treated in this country.

@jackieash27 God is the judge not us! The Golden rule is important God first, people second, me last! Then God will bless us and the world will be kinder!
