It's the history you've shared with them, and even more, what was left unsaid and that you really understood getting older. We are the receptacles of (long) lives that sometimes were on the margins of History , but if you've shared emotions with them, they have taught you a lot about what it means to be human.

@EarthlingWise I feel I had no adults in my life to teach me anything. Especially after meeting my bf who has a close family, I could see he learned so much from them. I’ve heard the same sentence he said to me repeated by his mum, and it was news to me. He learned cooking from her, building and sewing and many things from his family and community . Sometimes I feel dumb, but I truly don’t remember receiving advice even about basic things in life.
@BittersweetPotato I wasn't taught practical things either. My elders thought school was the place to learn.
