They're similar but no not the same.
It might either be out of season or might even be banned. I know a few places over here have banned it from being grown, might be the case up there as well.

@MethDozer Yea i know they are not the same. I don’t think it is a season thing, i have not seen it since I came here and where i come from it is available all year. Why would a vegetable like this be banned?

@BittersweetPotato because it is aquatic and invasive in some areas. It gets introduced to waterways and wetlands and chokes out the native vegetation. It's not banned from sales that I know of but a few places have banned or it's restricted farming it locally.
It might just not have enough demand where you are at, it could be that too.
