Yet again, Americans choose to be the odd ones 🤔

Wait!!! I just had a weird realization. The right is represented by blue in Canada and the left is red?!!!

I was thinking to myself, I follow American politics (not as much as before) but I have no idea what's going on in Canadian politics! I think I should!!

I sat there watching some YouTube videos made by a guy I used to like watching before coming here and I was confused as hell with the colours he was using!!

I had to research it to make sure that I understood it correctly.. only then I discovered that actually everyone uses blue to represent the conservatives except the US 🥔🤔 and so we have a similar situation here like the metric thing? Can someone explain why this became the case? 🥔🤷🏾‍♀️

There was a party switch in the 1960's when the civil rights act and voting act went into effect. That's also why you might hear someone say that the Republicans freed the slaves. That's true, but it's not the same Republican party that exists today.

@Dolimyte "the Republicans freed the slaves" that would be a misleading sentence to say even if in essence true.
@BittersweetPotato And it would have little to do with today’s Republicans who are banning history books and passing legislation that restricts teaching about past events that might "cause white students to feel ashamed".

@bijouxbroussard Totally. I wouldn't expect there to be any connection between today's Republicans and the end of slavery.
@BittersweetPotato They would probably reestablish it, if possible, and find ways to justify doing so.

@bijouxbroussard I think Trump can find some convenient lies in a heart beat without even giving it much thought. Just off the top of his head!

@bijouxbroussard they'd justify it the same way people did back in the 1860's, with a bible.
