I've never made coffee that way.
But I used to have a wood burning fireplace, and once lost power for two days after a tropical storm. A tree fell on a car and they sawed it up and left a pile of logs. I grabbed some and cooked all my defrosting meat in pans held over a log fire. I ate well, and put the leftovers in my freezer with a bag of ice.
