@Evolved Yes, In a lot of small towns in the heartlands, McD has replaced the town cafe as the gathering spot for townfolk. And what's left beneath that is sometimes pretty grim.

@Heartlander it's the same food, cooked the same way and served the same way ..As in it's a franchise. But it might be DNA , who knows.

@Evolved I had the fortune of spending some of my military time in Evreux in the later 60s. one, two or three month spurts, and maybe a year all added together. Also likewise in the UK and travel through the (then) friendly side of Europe. All before US fast foods found its way there.
@Heartlander @Heartlander you travelled well. i live in Toulouse (South) , A pretty quiet place full of culture and it's exciting to live here.

@Evolved We may be cousins :) Records show that many of my ancestors came from La Rochelle, or at least that's where they found passage. So very-very long ago, at a time when there serious religious warfare, So I have manufactured a variety of romantic sequences that may have given them cause to escape to the new world. None of which was because the food here would be better :)
@Heartlander there is always the possibility we are cousins. I have relations, in Boston, Chicago a few other places. My background is Jewish but today I am Christian. Alas no relations in La Rochelle
