This time of year. Egg nog homemade ice cream with a quarter cup of Scotch Whiskey in the mix for flavor.
@MoveAlong this sounds intriguing

do you use a peat bomb like Laphroaig or something milder like Glenmorangie?

@ThirstenHowl Actually since it's just for flavoring any run of the mill scotch will work fine.

Sipping scotch by the fireplace with friends. Different story. Anything less than Macallan would be uncivilized .
@MoveAlong that makes sense, I should've said something like White Horse or Ballantine for a cheaper peaty option

if you ever want to try something unusual for sipping though, try the Arran Amarone cask (and sniff it before you sip it, it indeed smells vinous), which is a treat if you also like Amarone wine

Bols Advocaat might be an interesting substitute for the eggnog too

@ThirstenHowl I'll have to try it. I love sniffing scotch and bourbon as I drink. As a younger guy I didn't appreciate all the nuances of a good pour.

You know it's odd. I can drink beer or whiskey and pick up on so many of the elements that make it what it is. I know what I like and why. With wine I cannot develop that sense. The best wine I ever drank wasn't much better than the worst. But when I hear a wine connoisseur talk or read an article I know there is more to it than I'm picking up on. I guess it's like some people are tone deaf and some people have no palate.
@MoveAlong I'm sure if you had your eyes closed you would smell the difference between, say, a gewurztraminer wine and a Chianti. For similar reasons I like unaged corn / maize whiskey (the aroma) and unaged jenever (very malty compared to its descendent, gin), and the only vodka I find interesting is potato vodka that's been distilled as few times as possible, to preserve the aroma and flavor (a good potato vodka is actually sippable, but still nowhere as interesting as gin, whisky, aged rum, tequila, etc.)

@ThirstenHowl Perhaps I misspoke a little about wine. I do pick up on the many differences in nose and taste. I just don't find most of them particularly pleasing whether with food or without. I would rather have a cold Yuengling than a glass of what experts would classify as an exceptional Burgundy.
@MoveAlong My grandfather’s eggnog recipe included bourbon à la vanille. The last Christmas that he was in my life he sent me two bottles.

@bijouxbroussard Sounds good. Plain bourbon and rum is also good.
