I discovered tropical fruit on a Navy deployment to Diego Garcia. Papayas were out of this world followed closely by Mangos and Guava.
Kiwi and fresh Persimmons were found in the San Joaquin valley.

Every port of call I tried to eat something new and indigenous.
This was more indigenous to the Filipino cooks rather than the area though.
