Church; a place where people meet to discuss confused/interpretive/poorly written passages from a book written by other humans long past.
The idea is to believe in the unbelievable, as a group, and to try to make each other believe they actually feel something, spiritually, in their soul.
A place to reach out together and pray for things you want, in your mind, and hope they come true.
A belief that it is real, not a fantasy, not someones idea of a joke.
That God (the manifestation from the book) is actually listening to your prayers and has the ability to act upon them, even though God never reveals himself.
That God moves in mysterious ways, meaning that God may kill a busload of children because this is something good, to help others later.
So now you think church people are horrible? They aren't horrible, just confused. Some days a little inkling of reality pops into their minds and they wonder why they spend so much time going to church and listening to all the BS.

Where did you go to attend Church, this does not sound like a Bible based Christian Church.
