There's usually a lovely one or two at most uk seaside towns. The best I've ever had was cooked with beef dripping and both the fish abd chips were crispy and freshly cooked.

@meggie That reminded me that among the best was in a small pit village (inland) in South Yorkshire - situated in what used to be the front-room of a small terraced house. Cooked in beef dripping though. Another one high up on my list of favourites is a place called "The Swan" in a back-street in Southport - a few hundred yards from the sea.

@meggie I go to Aberystwyth and a few times i have them swoop down and try to knock the chips out of my hands. They have got smart on how to get a free meal lol
