There are some things some would never guess existed.

My father was the inventor of deep fried Napoleon's. ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ

They were very popular in the early 1980s at a certain nation wide donut shop.

@DeWayfarer They look yummy!
DeWayfarer ยท 61-69, M
@LadyChatterley they were. Until he got burned by an oil frier. They dropped them then.

@DeWayfarer Deep fried Napoleon's what? The mind boggles and the gorge rises!
DeWayfarer ยท 61-69, M
@Really not as you are thinking.

Only the layers are deep fried then the chocolate is applied. It's actually not greasy at all. The layers are so thin it cooks instantly. In and out. Half a second. Virtually no grease.

BTW I bet you don't know how real Napoleons are made!

A Thin layer of shortening, aka grease, folded over and over, for Pete's sakes.

Ingredient wise or Taste wise it's no different. It's how it's done, that is the difference. The Technique!

not as you are thinking.
Haha; nobody knows what I am thinking unless I tell them - and I could be lying.

As for making Napoleons, I remember watching Emeril Lagasse doing it and thinking that like most of his recipes they were far too fussy for my liking. I no longer mess with making 'fancy' things from scratch, like ike vols-au-vent, profiteroles and the like. Don't think I ever did the Napoleons at all.
DeWayfarer ยท 61-69, M
@Really try one they real are not greasy at all unless they goof up the topping and use icing. ๐Ÿ˜–

Very delicate though.

Who's Pete? Are you talking about filo/phillo/phylo [pastry?
DeWayfarer ยท 61-69, M
@Really very old slang indicating the impossible. Reference to Saint Peter BTW.

Also Napoleons are Pastry!

BTW I'm not a baker as my father was. He only showed me certain things. Not the details.
Really ยท 80-89, M
@DeWayfarerIt was rhetorical. There's not much slang in use that's older than I am. I expect to be speaking to St Peter directly quite soon.
DeWayfarer ยท 61-69, M
@Really you could have been unfamiliar with English for all I know. There are users from all over the world on here.
Really ยท 80-89, M
@DeWayfarer I assumed my familiarity with English would have been obvious from my tongue in cheek 'Napoleon's what? ' in response to your misuse of apostrophe; but on the internet I guess you have to spell everything out; and even then ....

You're right that this forum has members of many nationalities. But so many on here are American & interpret everything in the context of USA citizenship that I myself begin to assume everyone on sw is an American - even though I'm not. English is my first and virtually my only language. I'm humbled that so many, for whom it's not, are so proficient in it - and I'm disappointed that so many born & raised in English speaking countries, can't/won't use it clearly.

Is that some kind of snobbery? Maybe so; but often the grammar on sw is so distorted that the actual meaning is unclear.
DeWayfarer ยท 61-69, M
@Really I have a lot of Australian, Canadian and British friends, in addition to other nationalities, that would have a problem with American slang.

As you might have noticed one user, not a friend, mentioned below fag is a cigarette to the British. They have a hard time with American slang.

Heck some British on here attempt to correct American English according to their "king's" English.

I don't make assumptions, nor do I correct others. If I should come across my own mistakes, yes, I might correct it. Not always though.

Typing on cellphones must be considered as well.

Given all that, again I don't see a point in assuming anything.

Live and let live is the best way to get along with such a diverse group of people.
Really ยท 80-89, M
@DeWayfarer
there "kings" English.
Two errors in three words! Dump the cell phone - what's your hurry?

Just kidding - Live & let live for sure, so long as a bit of leg-pulling is allowed!
DeWayfarer ยท 61-69, M
@Really I don't have a computer. Heck I'm lucky to have this cellphone, without a place to stay.... Yet ! ๐Ÿ™ƒ

@ReallyYR: Could be 'You're Right', but in this case 'Yeah, Right' with POFB (Punctuation Omitted For Brevity). It's very common here but more often POBI (Because ignorant)
DeWayfarer ยท 61-69, M
@Really that's another thing I don't do. I don't insult others. None of that is a matter of being right or wrong.
