If you ever get another bicycle, you should invest in a tracking device. I use an Invoxia tracking Device for my electric scooter. The device is so small and sleek. I

@HermannFegelein yeah but won't the thief just take out or destroy the tracker?

That typically happens if you're using mainstream tracking gadgets like Tile and Airtags. This happens because these devices are sometimes used to stalk people. So as a result, to avoid liability, they made it so that if someone has an Airtag on your car/bicycle/scooter, your iPhone woll let you know that there's an airtag that's been tracking your location.
With my tracking device, the thief first has to suspect that its even being tracked.
Most theives, in my experience are crackheads or just don't think very smart.
A crackhead is already struggling financially. They'll first need to unscrew the screws with a screwdriver if they have one.
Obviously with enough effort they can find a way but even breaking the board open kinda goes against why they stole the thing in the first place whether they want to use the scooter themselves or sell it.
A theif has to act fast. If it gets stolen while you're picking up an order inside a restaurant, he/she first has to get out of sight with the scooter, and then taking out the device takes some time as well while they're stopped somewhere.
Tracking devices are getting pretty small and advanced these days.
Theres even one that works in combination with a twin component that you keep in your wallet. With these, you can set max amount of distance you want to allow between the two devices.
So if the other component moves outside that specified radius, it'll send a notification to your phone to let you know that it's gone outside of that radius. So that one provides a more immediate alert to the victim of theft.

@HermannFegelein so what you're saying is an opportunistic thief got lucky and stole my bike because it had baskets, mid range, in decent condition, unattended for some time, and was only locked to a fence with a PIN lock?

@uikakarotuevegeta it sounds simple but yes. You should watch a video on YouTube on how quickly thieves can cut through a lock or break one.

@HermannFegelein well since they didn't even leave the lock behind, I'm assuming they probably figured out the PIN and didn't need to cut it right
HermannFegelein · 26-30, M
@uikakarotuevegeta That's strange. What kind of lock was it?
uikakarotuevegeta · 26-30
@HermannFegelein cable with 4 digit PIN
