So how does grind affect the bean ?

and whether its smooth or bitter?

And yes ...im talking coffee here, not my sour disposition or chronic moodiness due to lack of sex or sex realeted practices.... or anything vaguely related to even being touched by thr opposite gender *sighs*

Hence the post about coffee nuances

Yes ...my thrills are that small now🙄

The grind changes how quickly and evenly water can extract flavour from the coffee bean — and that has a huge impact on taste.

Think of it as surface area and flow:
1. Finer grind = more surface area
Water touches more of the coffee → extracts faster
Can lead to strong, intense flavours
But if too fine, you get over-extraction → bitter, harsh, muddy
2. Coarser grind = less surface area
Water extracts more slowly
Produces lighter, cleaner flavours
Too coarse = under-extraction → sour, weak, thin
3. Grind size must match brew method
Because different methods control how long water stays in contact:
Espresso (very fine) → fast, high pressure → needs quick extraction
Pour-over (medium) → moderate flow
French press (coarse) → long steep time → prevents over-extraction
4. Consistency matters as much as size
If the grind is uneven:
Fine particles over-extract (bitter)
Big chunks under-extract (sour)
That’s why good grinders aim for uniform particle size.
Simple way to think about it:
Too fine? → bitter
Too coarse? → sour
Just right? → balanced, sweet, complex
@KiwiBird oooh ...this helps !
