@devonman There is no chain coffee shop where I live, only Uncle Ernie's Little Shop of Everything, and of course, his coffee is nothing short of excellent! More often than not you'll get a cup of coffee for free. 💋 <== for Uncle Ernie
I grind and brew my own coffee, but if I am traveling it’s gonna be the independent coffee shop only! I’ll go without coffee before going to Starbucks.
If you want to keep independent coffee shops we must support them . . The people behind the counter are there because want to be and have a passion for what do . The biggest chain in the Uk is Costa , owned by Coke.
Costa was founded in London, but like far too many other UK companies, flogged off to America to be fattened, flattened and cheapened (though not in counter prices).
I call it "CostaLotta", and would never use it (or the American-originated chains) except in extremis.
I won't use the up-price-down-value chains unless desperate!
On long drives I take tea / coffee making things and flask of hot water with me in the car. Luckily there are a goodly selection of cafes and tea-shops in my area.
