@Arorin Thank you for explaining. We don't really do that in the uk. When it's someones birthday at my work, they are meant to bring in cakes but not everyone participates.
@Loverofthebeautiful the term potluck has been around for a long time just really meaning a mesh of different things as far as the culture goes people don't have to bring anything but its always nice when people do so we can share the load like going to a bbq or cookout. You should see if your co workers would like the idea it is fun.
@Arorin I have done this for neighbours BBQ's but my work colleagues wont do this. My team at work did have a cheese night recently where we all bought in cheese and crackers, which was fun.
