@ArtieKat Brunost (literally brown cheese) is not cheese in the sense understood my most people. It's made of the whey, basically you make it from what is[i] left over from making more ordinary cheese[/i].

The whey contains most of the lactose and the water plus a little of everything else but almost no fat and very little protein. You boil it to drive off the water, then shape it into blocks.

It's an instance where words that are commonly regarded as straightforward translations of each other lead one astray because they cover different ranges of things.
