Maple’s breakfast in bed review

@CountScrofula When I started reading about caring for an opossum, everything was saying they’re a lot of work because of their needs. But honestly, she’s really easy.
She’s not destructive, she uses litter boxes, she’s never been aggressive, she’s not difficult to handle indoors or outdoors.
She wakes me up waaaay less than my dogs used to (not that I minded that).
She needs supplements, a special diet, flea medication, mental stimulation and exercise, but my dogs needed all that as well.

I think if you’re someone who kinda already goes above and beyond for your pets, a possum is not going to be any more difficult, and in some areas, easier. She enjoys cuddling me, but she doesn’t seem to need my attention at all.

@itsok And also like - this is a wild animal who is tame but not domesticated. Dogs and cats have selected for being close with humans for tens of thousands of years.

@CountScrofula I know! I don’t understand how they still have a bad rap. I’ve heard people say they’re dirty and smell bad. She’s extremely clean. She grooms herself everyday, like a cat does. She cleans her face and hands after every meal.

Someone here said they’re loud??? She doesn’t make any noise.

I guess the only thing some people might find gross is slubbing. To show affection she opens her mouth slightly, drools, and then rubs it into my hair to mark me with her scent. I have to wash my hair afterward, but I still think it’s cute.
