originnone it isn't even about color or alcohol content, it's about flavor or the lack thereof. Not all
quality beer is high in alcohol, or dark. Moreover, most "bros" offset low alcohol content by just drinking cheap beer
a case at a time.
... mass produced pale lagers have little flavor, in part from being made with cheap adjuncts like rice ... which is why it is best to drink them as cold as possible, as colder temperatures hide bad flavors and the absence of flavor, and bland pale lagers thus primarily become a vehicle for 1) quenching thirst, 2) cooling off, and/or 3) getting drunk. 1 and 2 can be accomplished with a glass of ice water, 3 does not even have to occur if you're drinking a beer with actual flavor, and drinking it for the purpose of actually savoring the flavor, even if it is not ice cold (which means you will taste even more flavor).
It's the same thing with people who drink low-end spirits as "shots" rather than
sipping something with more quality. A shot goes by quickly so you don't have to taste it, and is often followed by the concept of a "chaser" to further get rid of the taste.
It boils down to what are your
objectives when it comes to drinking beverages that
just so happen to contain ethanol, regardless of whether a single serving as sold has a high or low concentration of the ethanol. Do you want to taste something great that just unfortunately has no analogue without ethanol? Are you just thirsty or hot? Or are you just trying to get drunk, and drunk cheaply?
