I drink socially, when I with a friend. It loosens the tongue a little, and makes the conversation last longer.

No it does not solve any problems. Neither does chocolate cake.

But I enjoy both in reasonable amounts..

I don't want to become an alcoholic or a diabetic.

@sunriselover I am just making an analogy between alcohol and eating sweets. That each can be done in moderation.

I was trying to say, that even though alcohol solves no problems, that in itself is not a reason to give up alcohol (although, it might be true that if one's motivation for drinking is to solve problems, THAT might be an indication that one should give up alcohol.) So, I drew an analogy with sweets to try to illustrate how I thought about alcohol use. That's all I was saying.
