Foreign Lunch
I am eating a cafeteria lunch right now. The menu board had a bunch of unfamiliar words. Except rice. I knew that one. Yet when I went to grab the yellow "rice" somebody said it was couscous. I focused better and yep, that is what it was. So I got the white rice. I prefer rice over couscous. I knew that word, too. But I confess I do not know what plant it comes from.
As for the entrees, they were totally unfamiliar, all called "tagine". I had to look it up: North African stew.
I kept grabbing small bits of what looked like meat. I then rubbed a fork on each and tasted the fork. Different. But not spicy. So I piled more on. Then I saw what looked like potatoes and carrots (Irish Moroccan stew?). I like Irish stew with those so piled that on, too.
I am eating. Not as spicy as I feared and with a sort of subtle fruity flavor. Totally new taste too me. A little dull, though. Needs more salt and spice.
I guess they are serving desert food since it is "hump day". 😜
