The Pita Principle

I ordered sandwich thins. The store was out of stock, so they substituted pita instead.

I am not entirely unreasonable, and I opened the package. The pita, which I HAVE had before, looked like a tortilla with odd elephant skin. Like you pumped a tortilla full of air and then poked a hole in it so it deflated.

I tried to find the place where the pita had been sliced so I could open it and insert the sandwich ingredients. I finally gave up, put the filling on top and folded it in half.

It was good, but frustrating.

This morning I looked at the package of pitas again.

Ohhhhh….

Pita (in a few different forms) is a standard "sandwich" bread here in the Middle East
@BridgeOvertroubledWaters Yes. I knew that in theory. I just forgot how to make it happen.

Pita, naan, tortillas, Native American fry bread, and probably dozens of others, all variations on a theme.
@Mamapolo2016 right , each with a slightly different texture
@BridgeOvertroubledWaters But each with a comforting connection to the rest. Somehow, human beings are going to invent a sandwich!
Bon appetit everyone 👍🏻
We occasionally get takeout falafel with hummus & diced veggies as a takeout meal, and few things are a bigger PITA than weak pita bread that splits when you try to fill it!!
@ElwoodBlues there are the smaller pitas that you slice it's side and insert the food. , or the large flat ones that you put the food on and roll it , similar to a tortilla
