social cook outs almost always have food that sucks

Literally every time a group you are a part of says there is going to be a cook out and there will be hot dogs and hamburgers, you can pretty much count on the food being total dog shit.

They will almost always buy the cheapest oscar meyer weiners, the cheapest hamburger meat all accompanied by the cheapest bread so that they can feed 20 people. And the result???? That same dog shit food that we have all tasted before.

Now whenever anyone ever says there is going to be a cookout I just find a way to avoid the event.

I almost feel like if there is going to be a real cookout you really need to have a pork roast with a whole damn pig on a spigot. Or maybe kill some lambs. Then you are REALLY preparing something quite special. THAT is a cookout.

But this shit....

...is not a cookout, just stay home. Even Applebees is better than yet another hamburger in a Mrs Bairds Hamburger Bun with no veggies (because apparently nobody likes them) and a single slice of kraft cheese 😕. I wouldn't even want to eat that by myself at home.

It just baffles me that this same scene has been played out so often all over the US since as long as I can remember.

I guess my point is that if you are going to have a cookout you can't cheap out on it. Doing it poorly is worse than just not even having one.

You have to go big or go home on this.

Hasn't been my experience. Usually it was pretty good stuff.

I agree, the food is always pretty boring and flat. I would serve something like greek chicken kebabs or shrimp, or polish sausages or something. Something different that potato salad too.

I guess it's more for the company.
