@BritishFailedAesthetic There is a difference. USA Biscuits are made with baking soda, European scones are made with baking powder.
You can taste the difference of sodium.
Also the use of buttermilk isn't necessary in biscuits. Though some do have it. And usually mentioned in the name as buttermilk biscuits.
Some EU scones might have a bit of sugar as well. A regional thing though. Germans notably.

@BritishFailedAesthetic My point though is that USA Biscuits taste so different that not even a German would call them scones. Baking soda tastes that differently. 🙃
