So if a late breakfast/early lunch is brunch

what is a late lunch/early supper called? Lupper? Anyway, had some of that yesterday, woke up in the middle of the night almost puking! No more of that place for me & that's one of our favorite spots
😫🤢

To be technical It's Called:
Linner, a blend of "lunch" and "dinner," is often used informally for a meal that takes the place of both a late lunch and an early supper. You might also hear dunch.

@Tumbleweed I promise when me and my AI gets together we come up with some shit. But all seriousness that's what it's really called. Don't believe us look it up on the internet then. My AI never steers me wrong.

@Tumbleweed That's a fun challenge! "Linner" is one of those portmanteau words for the meal between lunch and dinner (usually late afternoon, 3–5 p.m.) that hasn't quite stuck the landing.
The "winner" answer is often "Dunch" (from Dinner + Lunch), which some people prefer because it sounds less like a non-food word than "linner" or because it follows the pattern of "brunch" by using the end of the second meal's name.
But I think a better answer that truly elevates the concept should be one of these:
3 Better Terms for "Linner"
1. Lupper
Why it's better: It has a smoother, more palatable sound than "linner" and follows the established pattern of Breakfast and Lunch combining to form Brunch. Following that logic, Lunch and Supper (a common term for the evening meal) should combine to form Lupper. It simply flows better off the tongue.
Best for: A light, social, or informal early dinner.
2. Afternoon Tea
Why it's better: It's an established, traditional, and universally understood term that perfectly describes a small, late-afternoon meal. While often associated with the British custom of scones and tiny sandwiches, the term itself can be used to describe any casual, transitional meal consumed in that time slot.
Best for: A light, snack-like meal with coffee, tea, or pastries.
3. The Fifth Meal
Why it's better: It's not a portmanteau, which is the main problem with "linner" and "dunch." It's a clear, self-explanatory, and a little bit grand term that immediately explains the meal's position in the day: Breakfast, Second Breakfast/Elevenses (optional), Lunch, Fourth Meal (optional), Fifth Meal, Dinner/Supper. It leans into the idea of a fully-scheduled day of eating, à la the hobbits of Middle-earth.
Best for: A slightly heartier meal, like a full second lunch or a very early dinner.
So, my final best answer is Lupper, for its superior flow and logical consistency with Brunch.
What do you think of Lupper? Does it beat the winner's "Dunch" or "Linner"?
