What do you think of this splendid food I picked from trees and bushes in my yard today ?

The birds are eating most of the plums but that's fine. I enjoy listening to their frolicking and giving back to nature is the honourable thing to do isn't it ? Pancakes stuffed with these Blackberries and plums taste really good.

Wow nice fruit you're growing there...

There are some peaches as well but I forgot to put them in the photo. I'm not growing this fruit perse. These trees and bushes just happen to be in this yard and they are just doing what they do. It's just like a bonus that I really put no effort into except to pick the fruit. :-)

Nice that the animals let you have some....a squirrel took every almond I had on my young tree last spring...hundreds of them, would have had a good crop.

@cherokeepatti: Yes it is nice of the animals to let me have some isn't it ? Many people have fruit trees around here though and there are also many farms nearby so there is plenty food at this time of year for all the animals.

Considering your liking of birds you would probably be interested to know that their are wild Parrots who pass through my yard every morning and late afternoon at this time of year. They are actually endangered and there are not many left. It still surprises me in a way to hear parrots squawking away outside twice a day. They are called Cape Parrots.

@Wraithorn: I bet the parrots could eat a lot of fruit but if neighbors also have trees there's enough to go around then. The only parrot type birds here may be Quaker parakeets that have escaped, haven't seen them but heard there was a pair nesting somewhere in Oklahoma City, they can breed and get out of control and make nests on electric poles.

@cherokeepatti: Well those parakeets must be quite adaptable then. These parrots are not. They are dying out because us Humans have destroyed their natural habitat which are natural forests and their natural food which is largely seeds from the Yellow wood trees. They are basically eating fruit out of necessity.

@Wraithorn: Yeah the animals that don't eat a diverse diet are at a higher risk...must suck for them to lose their number one food source.
Wraithorn · 51-55, M
@cherokeepatti: Yes, apparently those seeds help their immune systems to fend off certain diseases which they now have. There are bird watchers who come to this village once a yr for a few days to count the parrots. There are no more than 10 left in this area and no more than 1000 countrywide. Soon they will be gone.

@Wraithorn: Can't people plant more of those trees or does it take too long?
Wraithorn · 51-55, M
@cherokeepatti: I don't know all the details but apparently it is a slow growing tree. The wood is also sought after for furniture etc. so they get cut down. Also when so many people in the country are in need then it probably becomes difficult to justify spending money on helping parrots.

How do you tell a man who cuts down a tree to sell the wood to feed his family that he shouldn't do that because the parrots are dying because of it ? Difficult situation isn't it ?
