@NativePortlander1970 My grandparents lived in the Grand Island area. We moved to Plattesmouth one summer and it was not far from Omaha. Went to an NCO club on Offutt military base a couple of times for dinner. Was taken in by an officer and his wife when my dad fell and broke his leg (had to have surgery) after my mother was hospitalized. We had nowhere to go and the military took care of us. Stayed there during 4th of July week, it was in the mid 60’s.
