Belgian food plays an important part in the country’s culture. Moules frites is, of course, still the national dish. Traditionally cooked by steaming the mussels in a rich sauce made from butter, garlic, shallots, white wine and parsley (and sometimes a splash of cream)

I'd be happy with any of those, Val - if you're cooking or buying 🤗

@ArtieKat Thank you for that. I've made and had some Flemish Stew this evening

@val70 I don't know what your weather is like but it's not a summery dish is it?
val70 · 51-55
@ArtieKat Well, I like doing the meat in a lovely beer sauce with plenty of onions and in a good amount because I eat it over the next couple of days. Either with rice, mashed potatoes, bread dumplings or even stoemp. Great cold with just some bread too

@val70 It sounds delicious! I don't cook many sauces in the summer - tend towards grilled meats in this sort of weather

@ArtieKat I prepare a lot to eat during the next days. It saves me time. Do you use a slow cooker or airfryer?
ArtieKat · M
@val70 I have both. I use my air fryer a lot - the slow cooker only when I am cooking something like pulled pork in large quantities to portion and freeze
val70 · 51-55
@ArtieKat I even make waffles and freeze them. Out of the freezer I use the toaster to warm them up. Perfect breakfast

@val70 Nice! I have Type 2 diabetes so I tend to cut down on carbs nowadays.

@ArtieKat I need to watch it too. That's why I didn't include the Belgian desserts in my list. I could have mentioned so many more Belgian dishes

@val70 Yummy!

@val70 Going back to your list: I'm a great lover of asparagus - is that sauce the same as what we'd call Hollandaise?
val70 · 51-55
@ArtieKat Yes, that's it. Only I have my own family recipe without the egg
