It took me 50 years to get up the nerve to try Biscuits and Gravy. (Don't laugh, Michigan guy, not from the south.) I understand the Brit's understated "Quite Nice". Love the stuff. Now grits, well you can kiss my grits but I'll not eat any more of them.

@bowman81 I first had biscuits and gravy at a Waffle House in the south a long time ago (I am not southern either.) I loved it. I have since discovered that the quality varies quite a bit from place to place. There is a restaurant here in Minnesota that serves great breakfast food in general, but their biscuits and gravy are awful. And a few years ago, my wife and I stopped at another Waffle House in the south, but the place seems to have gone downhill.

On the other hand, I had great B&G in southern California a few years ago.

Grits are OK as a side dish, but I can't say they are fantastic. Gotta drown 'em in butter! lol

@DrWatson I have learned to make biscuits and gravy. The secret lies in roasting the flour in butter/grease for a couple of minutes before adding in the milk. If the cook just adds the flour and milk you get a chalky taste. The better gravy is brown rather than white.
@bowman81 There are ways of preparing grits that you might like, too. I love making cheesy shrimp grits for brunch. 😊

@bijouxbroussard I might just try that, but with all the trepidation that those British kids showed when looking at gravy. 🤣

@bowman81 Make a Vocaroo of yourself saying, "That's rather nice!" 😅

🫣@DrWatson After I taste Bijoux's cheesy, shrimpy grits!
@bowman81 You just haven’t tasted the right grits for sure!
