Pondering something new

I've recently gotten interested in going on a wine tasting.I've never really been into wine so this is a whole new experience for me. Any advice, opinions, etc?

I read in a Womans Day magazine that white wine can cause skin cancer. I know two white wine lovers who both got skin cancer too. They were and are both older fair skinned Italian women. So maybe its true. FYI

@SW-User luckily it isnt all wine just the white variety. Which is kinda sad cause i used to like a nice pinot grigio. Now i stick to reds.
