Latest Acquisition - Monkey Shoulder

This is a blend of several Speyside single malts, and as such it's much lighter and less smoky than the Islay example I discussed last time. I'm not knowledgeable enough to say what distilleries went into this mix. It's definitely not as sweet as Johnnie Walker Black (the only other blended scotch I've had recently), possibly as Monkey Shoulder is marketed as a mixer. I wouldn't use this in a mixed drink; once you're adding other ingredients, it doesn't really matter if the base is any good or not. It's fine, certainly inoffensive - there's nothing to dislike here, but otherwise not a whole lot going on. That being said I probably won't be getting it again.

I recently got some free whisky samples and one of them was a Welsh single malt. My friend said it was one of the best whiskys he'd had. I had no idea the Welsh made whisky
@meggie I've heard of Welsh whisky. I don't think the Welsh have been making whisky that long. It's on my list.

@LeopoldBloom there was also a Norfolk single malt that Marks and Spencer were selling.
@meggie Heck, there's even a single malt from Israel.

@LeopoldBloom ...and Japan!!
@caesar7 There are a lot of very good single malts from Japan - unfortunately, most are out of my price range.
