ICE 🧊 in Drinks 🥤 is Automatically pushed heavily in US by the Restaurant Industry which uses water and mixes in simple ingredients and puts them over ice which takes up anywhere from 2/3 to 3/4 of the glass and costs Virtually NOTHING!
Eating in drinking from a plastic or glass tumbler; Even with & Unlimited Refills Iced Tea might cost ½¢ (half a penny) per glass! Soda from a small restaurant without volume pricing cost 8½¢! The paper cup, straw, and lid cost twice as much (16½¢) so then you've got a whole 25¢ in your hand! You Paid $2⁰⁰ (average) for that Drink! Restaurant
Very Conservative* Estimated Figures:
16 Ounce Drink WITH ⅔ ICE = 10 Oz. Soda ≈25¢ Cost or 87.5% Profit or $1⁷⁵ 800% Markup!
VS.
16 Ounce Drink WITHOUT ICE = 16 Oz. Soda ≈ 30¢
in Cost to the Restaurant! Giving
That ≈ 5¢ Difference is only 85% Profit or $1⁷⁰ = 667%
Zero Cost Ice 🧊 makes Restaurants 5¢ per Glass
Average McDonald's sells 3200 Sodas/Day
So using 2/3rds a Cup of Ice saves a least $0.05 per cup!
$1⁷⁵ Profit per Cup = $5600⁰⁰ PROFIT/DAY just on Sodas!
That $5600 pays $10/Hour to 14 Employees for 5 Days!
* Costs are lower for chain restaurants and profits higher.

I am in the UK and I can assure you we never put ice in our beer.
We have many different kinds of beer available. Lagers, ales and stouts to name some. Some are served chilled and some not.
As for the foam head on a beer you will get that in the north of the country but not so much in the south.
We do put ice in coke, orange juice, lemonade and the like but perhaps only 3 or 4 cubes.

@MrAverage1965 anyone wanting ice in a beer shouldn't be allowed to drink it. I loved the selections at the pubs I visited, nice change from what we have in the states

Keg lagers, which have little flavour, tend to be dispensed deeply chilled. One major manufacturer of bar fountains refrigerates the outer casing so moisture from the air condenses on it, for effect.
Draught ales are, or should be, dispensed cooled but not refrigerated: like most foods and drinks, if too cold you don't really taste it. Where the cask is behind the bar itself, it is usually wrapped in a special cold-blanket, plumbed to a refrigeration unit.
You do not put ice in beer though, be it an ale or a lager, from a keg, bottle or draught cask! It would water it down.
Many British drinkers of gin and/or whiskey do have those with ice, and I think ice-cubes in cola is popular - I am not sure because I do not drink cola, of any brand.

Last time when I was in the UK (Wales, to be precise), the beer was not lukewarm, and there was a thick layer of foam on it – what a pleasant surprise! 😏 🍺

I have ice in my drinks but dont drink beer. Ice in my gin and tonic and ice in my dry white wine and soda spritzer. In hot weather ice in my water or fruit juice.

Yeah I'm pretty much the same, I'll chill my beer in a fridge before drinking it and I'll put ice in pretty much any other cold drink.

In Summer, yes it can happen.
Cold beer though is a big no from me. It ruins the flavour.
I understand people wanting a cold lager though, that just tastes of chemicals anyway.

I asked for ice in my soda in London and the server looked at me like I was crazy
Dacrowman · 70-79, M
@JohnnyNoir strange as they like to put quite a bit in so you get less drink unless it's from a bottle
JohnnyNoir · 56-60, M
@Dacrowman well, this was in 1987 so things must have changed
Dacrowman · 70-79, M

You have to ask for ice, and they’ll give you a cube or two.
Royrogers · 61-69, M
A cube of ice with a gin and tonic is rather nice
Mamapolo2016 · F
You could order whiskey neat, ice on the side.

I see on Instagram in the USA a lot of people fill the glass to the top with ice, I only half fill it with ice but I live in Ireland.. So I guess I shouldn't have responded 🇮🇪😂
nedkelly · 61-69, M
@SW-User okay, what do you put in the top half of the glass? 🤪
Mooed78 · F
@SW-User I think a lot of the time we drink stuff without ice. As the weather is cold 🥶 I have seen the horrified looks of foreigners when this occurs.😂
Lilnonames · F
Usa puts ice in drinks so u have less drink and make more money
Pretzel · 61-69, M
@Lilnonames you have to ask for "light ice" and then they still give you half a cup
