If I Ever Get Hungry & Want To Go Out For Dinner It Will Never Again Be At IHOP….

They’ve gone down the toilet, way down. This is the 2nd one (two in this city) that doesn’t know how to run a restaurant.
Heartlander · 80-89, M
The nearby IHOP just closed its doors. The last time we tried to eat there the hostess/waitress warned us that their staff was down to just 2 and we'd have a very long wait. We didn't stay.

Lots of places have gone that way. Applebee's, Panera's likewise. To the point we no longer even try. Home cooking has replaced them all.

@Heartlander there weren’t many people there at that IHOP last night either, and it was a Friday night. They’ve ran on their regular customers I believe. One or two people working there could have fixed what we ordered.

@cherokeepatti It's sad. Our's is/was a neighborhood IHOP, just about 10 blocks away, and pre-COVID was always full of people. But at most just a 5 minute wait, nice service, a dependable go-to place for breakfast or dinner. They seemed to strive in spite of being surrounded by 10 or 15 other restaurant choices and another 50 to 75 options within just a mile or two. It's a super-busy general area where all the restaurants seemed to strive, pre-COVID. But now, they all seem to be suffering. Near empty parking lots, and every few days another seems to close. The general area still seems to otherwise be as lively as ever, a nearby big hospital, Sprint/T-Moble corporate, a booming Sam's, a booming COSTCO, a booming Whole Foods, a gigantic strip mall. Everything seems to be back to normal. or near normal, but the restaurants.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Heartlander yeah this one was kind of popular too before. It’s not being run right.
AbbeyRhode · F
Same here. At one time, they were our favorite. Now they hardly have any selection, and the place is a mess. It already looks like an abandoned building.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@AbbeyRhode They pissed me off so bad I’ll never go back there. I can understand why Chick-Fil-A is crowded now. They will bend over backwards to serve their customers.
AbbeyRhode · F
@cherokeepatti True. I can't even get near the one by me, I get it delivered, and it's always great.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@AbbeyRhode I’ve never got up and made a scene like I did last night. I was at the point that I didn’t care if everyone in that restaurant heard what I had to say. I could have stayed home and fried a couple of eggs and been done with dinner and it would have been good compared to being treated the way they did me.

The last time I went to an IHOP was a couple of years ago and their food and service was still good. Waffle House is another story. I went to one years ago and the waitress had a really bad attitude when I ordered my food. They didn't even ask me if I wanted to sit down and gave my order as to go. Lo and behold, the food itself was cold. It was the first and last time I ever eat there again.
Carissimi · F
I haven’t eaten at an IHOP in over 10-years. I did enjoy eating there, but I stopped eating out as much some time ago. Sorry to know they have gone down hill.
Carissimi · F
They are trying to shut down all small businesses, so I’m afraid it’s only going to get worse. @cherokeepatti
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Carissimi they made 3 businesses leave so they could do a railroad overpass in the area. And then sold the excess land after construction to 7-11 for a huge store-gas station. Pissed me off that they displaced 3 local businesses to let a corporate one have the land.

Corporations will take over everything, if they get their Great Reset firmly established. @cherokeepatti
Pretzel · 61-69, M
they last two times I went there it was a little off
Ontheroad · M
Yeah, they have been going downhill for several years. I think there is only one left around here.
nudistsueaz · 61-69, F
They don't know how to clean the table's rather, they are always sticky.
MarineBob · 56-60, M
For some reason the industry is against making all restaurant employees have serv safe certification...
MarineBob · 56-60, M
@cherokeepatti but they want $15.00 hour
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@MarineBob I bet they are constantly training new workers because they can’t keep people if they tell them to lie to customers and piss them off after they try to cover it up. I felt sorry for that guy but damn he never told me they didn’t have salad. He just came and ask if there was anything else I wanted to order and I thought that was weird. I wasn’t the only one at the table either.

@cherokeepatti take the boy to Sonic, I had the big dill cheeseburger last night. And will get one for the grandson today

I don't think it's just one particular restaurant. Quite a while back, I went to a restaurant that is a bit above an IHOP. I ordered a meal that included mashed potatoes When the meal arrived, no mashed potatoes because they no longer served them. Nobody bothered to mention that small fact. The service wasn't what it once was either.
Ever since all the covid stuff, businesses are hurting and many just aren't putting out the quality they once did.
rfatoday · 61-69, M
@cherokeepatti You would think they'd up the service. I wonder too if the problem is not enough decent workers are available. Sometimes in chains like iHop the problem is corporate culture. If upper management does not encourage and reward excellence, and get rid of bad managers, then I don't see things changing. Chic-Fil-A is successful because they pay workers well and foster excellence. The one near us is a well-oiled machine. Drive-thru lines move through quickly and everyone is polite. Culture makes a big difference IMO.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@rfatoday doubtful. At this point it seems that they don’t care. Changing those booth seats to very uncomfortable ones seemed very deliberate, as though they didn’t want customers to linger any longer than they needed to eat. The one on the other side of the city near the interstate was going downhill a couple years before Covid. Vowed never to go back to that one either.
rfatoday · 61-69, M
@cherokeepatti That’s unfortunate.

@Stereoguy The way that waiter says “I can’t let you leave without paying for your food” made me think they’ve crapped on others so much that people were walking out.

Never liked ihop only went one time same as a waffle house
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Lilnonames They serve gluten-free waffles now but I wouldn’t trust them to make them gluten-free with the way they are running that place
