I had venison for the first time

I marinated it to cover some of the wild taste.

@TexChik Certainly not by choice.

@TexChik So you wait until they are big enough to have hopes and dreams before you slaughter them. 🤔

@Lostpoet Mmm give a few years and it will make some mighty fine eating. Too small to bother with now though.

@Lostpoet I’m getting you back for this!!! 😛

@Lostpoet Bigger bang for your Buck or Doe.

All wild deer in my country are feral pests destroying the habitat for our bird-life. Aotearoa does not have any endemic land mammals so deer are fair game for hunters.

@KiwiBird I was just giving her a hard time but I did think venison was a baby deer.

@Lostpoet you wait until they’re big enough to provide enough meat. I keep a freezer full for me and my kids and then donate 2 to food kitchen in the little town outside where I hunt. You don’t grow steaks or hamburger patties.

@Lostpoet Unlike beef where veal is calf meat Deer meat is Venison no matter what the age of the animal.

@Lostpoet You really need an education. Deer dont have hopes and dreams. Only humans do. They dont want to be ripped to shreds by predators while still alive, they dont like disease, drought, temperature extreames or starvation. They are creatures of habit capable of some learning and remembering. But when they are mature, and the carrying capacity of our land is met, some are harvested for the health of the herd and because I like venison.

@TexChik I was just being a dick and I agree with some of that they also don't want to be hunted and shot and eaten. They do have biological needs like to breeding and nurturing their young and I'm sure they enjoy the sun on their back, cold water, the taste of grass.

@Lostpoet it's serious and deep business taking a life for nourishment.
