Mustard and horseradish
Raine · F
@SW-User I love both of those. Do you like picadilly?
SW-User
@Raine Not sure, I haven't tried it for years. My gran used to make it. I am getting a taste for mustard, but horseradish is still definitely a no.

@SW-User I have it growing in the garden, and other than roast beef, I can't find any other use for it. You can get various types of mustard. English is hot, the French more mild and then there's a few others too, like wholegrain mustard.

@Raine I remember horseradish dill pickles that were sold in the early 60’s...take the lid off of the jar and your eyes would water.

@Raine When I was young mustard used to make me retch, I even thought I might be allergic. I can eat it now, but probably wouldn't chose something in a mustard sauce.

@SW-User my brother was the same as you with it.
SW-User
@Raine I'm still the same with horseradish. I need to practise more.

@SW-User When I was 4 years old I watched my younger sister, who was 3, sit down with a quart jar of mustard and eat half of it. She had gotten it out of the refrigerator. I should have told on her but was fascinated watching her. She broke out in hives all over her body a couple hours later and my aunt called the family doctor, he drove out to make a house call. Kept asking her what she ate, had she eaten anything unusual. My aunt kept saying no....I piped up and said “I watched her eat a half a big jar of mustard, she ate it with a spoon.” The doctor said “no wonder”, gave her a shot of Benadryl and told her not to eat anything else for the rest of the day. Then by dinner time she cried and got to eat dinner.

@SW-User Same sister also sat in the back seat of the car with the groceries and ate all of the bananas. I don’t know how her stomach held them all, she was like a monkey. When we got home my aunt picked up the bags and saw a pile of banana peels on the floorboard of the car. She hated bananas till she was grown after that.

@cherokeepatti My niece has a banana phobia. She can't even be in the same room as one.

@SW-User when did that start?
SW-User
@cherokeepatti A very young age, I don't remember when.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@SW-User there has to be a reason for anyone to develop a phobia. There was a young woman who would get hysterical when she saw pickles....she would break down and cry. I had to wonder if someone molested her with one for her to react in such a manner.
SW-User
@cherokeepatti I don't know what caused it. It is s rare phobia. Some cases are linked to being sick after eating bananas.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@SW-User well also someone might have tried to make her eat one after she got sick or indigestion from eating one.

@SW-User well when a child is young it is easy to get a phobia when something happens that frightens them.
