Blizzards across the plains can be like a trip to the north pole. I once tried to out race one to get to OK City and found myself stranded in Emporia for 3 days.

@Heartlander How long ago did that happen? Was it the Christmas Eve blizzard we had over a decade ago?

@cherokeepatti :) I discovered years ago that trying to outrace a pending blizzard was hopeless. It's too often the blizzard that gets there first. It's been a few years since the last time we even tried.
I remember one Thanksgiving family gathering in South Oklahoma, with an "Ohh Nooo!!" forecast for Sunday, so "better we head back home on Saturday". Another time in February.
That time in Emporia was long-long ago.The freeway was closed for for almost a week. Same thing, the forcast is for tomorrow so we better go today. But then tomorrow arrived 20 hours early.

@Heartlander When I was 6 years old my parents wanted to go visit my grandparents in Nebraska, we lived in Missouri. The trip wasn’t that long, a few hours and it was about 10 days before Christmas. When we got there it was nice enough that my cousins were playing softball out next to a cornfield. By the time we got ready to leave a blizzard was forecast so we left, my father thought he could beat it but we ended up having to stay the night in a motel. I got athletes foot from the motel that took a couple months to get rid of.

Yep, the weather can change on a dime. I once saw a difference of 50+ degrees between St Louis and KC. From bathing suit to overcoat in just a few hours.
Going the other way, I wouldn't mind a 50 degree warmup within the next two hours :)

@Heartlander the sun has been shining all day, the snow melted on the driveway and road. But this is Oklahoma, we have warm weather right before most of the ice storms. It got up to 19 F. This afternoon
