Do you like sultanas (golden raisins) ?

I think they taste gross and last weekend I learned another reason to not eat them.
I had a chat with a grape farmer who makes raisins and sultanas and exports them.
According to him, and he asked me to keep this hush hush, he treats sultanas with extra amounts of sulphur dioxide to keep them light in colour.
Apparently all raisins are treated with it but sultanas receive extra doses.
No wonder they taste terrible ! Yuck ! 🤢

No and yet another reason to hate them is that grapes are highly treated with pesticides, which is hard to remove from the small grapes.

@curiosi Yes, he mentioned that too. According to him the dry climate in the area that he farms means less insects so he doesn't use much insecticide. Unfortunately those grapes are snapped up by winemakers in other countries for a good price so we don't get to eat them.
