Ever make butter?

Thanksgiving is a great time to cook with butter but the butter snobs out there expect expensive European stuff. That's nuts! Butter is easy to make. Just whip cream too long and it will become butter. When the butter forms just beat it a bit longer and pour off the buttermilk. Then squeeze the butter chunks together and knead it in the same bowl with cold water rinses till the water is clear. Drain and knead out the remaining water. Add salt if you want. If you want the prefermented cream they Yammer about just put some buttermilk in the container of cream the day before. A quart of cream will make quite a bit of butter.

No idea why European butter is considered to be "better" than domestic butter. Really I don't get it. Butter is butter.

(When I was in Australia, there were cheap tasty domestic tomatoes, and expensive European (=Dutch) tomatoes.)

@helenS I’m thinking it’s because they don’t use so many drugs on their dairy cows like in the USA.

@cherokeepatti Haha I even know the names of some cows my butter comes from! 😁

@helenS I was born on a family farm, we had about 3 dozen cows and sold milk to a dairy. But our own family cow was a Jersey, we called her Jersey, she was really gentle. And the milk & butter was reallly good...

Here's an alternative recipe:
Since you're already at the grocery store buying cream, walk ten feet to your left and buy some fucking butter.

Accidentally made butter once when I whipped cream by shaking it in a glass jar with a lid on lol. Have tried to another couple of times, but not a quantity.

I was born on a farm, that’s all we had back then. We had two butter churns. We had a Jersey cow so had a lot of cream to make butter and whipped cream, etc. with.

I have made cultured butter, it was the other half of my kefir cheese. It was delicious!
