...when the taste of the onions themselves begins to remind you of whipped cream (not that I don't like whipped cream, mind you - just NOT in my onion rings!)

I knew a couple who owned a little diner. She told me how they made their onion rings. They bought a commercial whipping cream (presweetened) and dipped the onion rings in that and then in cracker meal.
