I don’t understand rBST milk

So this says the farmers don’t treat their cows with rBST. Cool, I don’t know what that is but cool.
Then it says the FDA thing which to me means two things:
1. rBST doesn’t mean the milk is bad in a statistically significant way so why does it matter that they pledged not to use rBST
2. Even though the farmers SAID they don’t, we can’t prove it if they actually don’t
Basically, wtf?

The r means recombinant, ie made in a lab. BST is bovine (cow) somatotropin, a hormone the keeps the cow lactating longer. Like 120 vs 90 days. The amount the cow gets is tiny, micrograms and it's diluted by the entire mass of the cow. It's not in the milk.

Making more milk does stress the cow more than it would be on a shorter lactation cycle.

The important question is the somatic cell count in the milk but the idiots who are upset never ask that question.

And as milk from many farms is mixed, I doubt they could have parallel milk distribution systems.

@ShaythePanTransMan usually water for convenience. If I'm getting fancy, I'll blend with blueberries. With frozen ones it comes out like a smoothie
