Why would some people get offended over someone disliking a type of food? I don't like cake.

I know you guys are thinking, "Omg who cares?!" Well deal with it. I'm going to say it anyways. So a girl I knew asked me if I like cake. I gave her a straight answer, "No." She looked shocked. She asked why I don't like cake. She shouted, "EVERYBODY LOVES CAKE!" Then I said, "Well not me. Shocker. Not everyone is into cake. I just don't like the taste of it. It's gross to me. I prefer birthday brownies or doughnuts over cake." She threw a fit but I just don't care. I just walked off. She tried to get me to eat it
So I scolded her off about it. Why can't she accept that not everyone likes cake? This is when we were 12 and for my birthday. It's MY birthday and I know what I want and don't want and I'm not sorry for it.
